We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Environment and Sustainability to join our team. This role is pivotal in advancing our environmental stewardship efforts across our (85) sites in North America. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental management, regulatory compliance, and sustainability strategy development.  This role can be based anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Environmental Regulatory Compliance:

  • Manage environmental regulatory requirements across federal, state, provincial, and international frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance assurance systems are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively adjust strategies to maintain compliance.

Environmental Impact Reduction:

  • Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact from manufacturing operations.
  • Lead initiatives to improve environmental performance through innovative solutions and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable practices throughout the organization.

Sustainability Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement systems to deliver on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments.
  • Drive the integration of sustainability into business strategies and operations.
  • Set ambitious yet achievable sustainability goals and track progress towards them.

Organizational Capability Building:

  • Provide training, coaching, and support to build organizational competencies for effective environmental management.
  • Foster a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability awareness across all levels of the organization.
  • Promote continuous learning and development in sustainability practices and principles.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, community groups, and industry organizations.
  • Represent the organization in environmental and sustainability-related forums and initiatives.
  • Cultivate partnerships that advance our environmental and sustainability objectives.

Here's What We're Looking For:

  • Ability to travel ~50%
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Proven experience (typically 12+ years) in environmental management, sustainability strategy development, and regulatory compliance in a vertically integrated multi-site manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of global environmental regulations and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change within an organization.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex environmental issues to diverse audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering impactful sustainability initiatives.
  • Certification (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001) and experience with ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB) are desirable.
